(from the event’s organizers)
Kickoff Event: Illusion of Marriage
May 31, 2013
7pm to 930pm
800 S. Halsted
Chicago, IL 60607

Join us for a screening of Homotopia, a 2007 film by Eric A. Stanley and Chris Vargas, (screenings at 7:15 and 8:15) and The Papi Project: Archival Images, a multimedia slide installation & programmed soundtrack, by Oli Rodriguez(screenings at 7:45 and 8:45).

This will be a kickoff event for the upcoming issue of Carceral Notebooksan independently published academic journal that critically explores contemporary culture and society through the lens of art, philosophy, social science, and law. Focusing on the theme of marriage and family, the issue will address topics like heterosexual opposition to marriage, homosexual opposition to marriage, “going solo,” alternatives forms of family, varieties of kinship, polymorphous perverse models for relationships, serial monogamy, etc.

The issue will be released as an online journal in late June to coincide with the Supreme Court Decision on same-sex marriage. The issue is designed to break open that conversation by being intentionally provocative across disciplines and through a wide variety of artistic practices. In addition to the publication, the editors are curating a series of events.
