books, books and more books

Chris has designed the cover for the new Against Equality book coming out in October. This anthology, Against Equality: Don’t Ask to Fight Their Wars, is edited by Ryan Conrad and challenges the current movement fighting to allow gay and lesbian folks to serve in the military (they are also trying to raise some money for the project, if you have any extra check this out). Also, the anthology I co-edited, Captive Gender: Trans Embodiment and the Prison Industrial Complex will be out in August on AK Press,. There will  be a book launch on September 8th, 2011 at 7pm at Modern Times bookstore in San Francisco (and many more after, so keep a lookout). Captive Genders would be a great book to read before or after watching Criminal Queers. Speaking of CQ, we are booking some screenings/talks for the fall and winter, hit us up if you wanna bring us to your town. The interview that the amazing folks in Kingston, ON (Kym Nacita and DJ Fraz) did with us it now archived, so you can listen to it here. Also, if you are interested in teaching Homotopia get your library to contact us about institutional sales, then it will be archived forever. I have visions of a student looking in the DVD archive 20 years from now and finding Homotopia and wonder what it is, and wondering what DVDs were.

we love the queers of Kingston, ON

Some amazing folks in Kingston, ON (Canada) recently interviewed us as part of their special pride day event. The day-long program also featured Queer youth in Kingston, The Lost Bois, Mattilda Bernstein Sycamore, Scott Wilson, Kenji Tokawa, Alexis Mitchell, and Scott Morgensen. Its five hours of fun, you can listen to it archived here. (the show aired 6/15/2011) Also, if you happen to be in Kingston this summer, check out Queeriot  which is according to them,  “Queeriot 2011 is a radical convergence in Kingston from July 8-10 to bring queers together across lines of difference. Kingston is home to multiple prisons, a military base, and an elitist university. It is also the birthplace of the white supremacist, colonial nation called Canada. We’re calling on queers to cum together to disrupt this shit. Our skills, knowledge and bodies are weapons in this fight.” Check them out here. I believe they will be screening Homotopia there so keep an eye out for that.
